The White House has confirmed that US President Donald Trump plans to sign the Russia sanctions bill championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham after it passed both chambers of Congress.

Details: The Wall Street Journal reported that the White House had pushed the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives for movement on the bill.

Following the successful vote in the House of Representatives, key supporters of the bill celebrated its passage.

"To the people of Ukraine, you are not alone," said Senator Richard Blumenthal, who co-authored the bill.

Addressing Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, he added: "Your economy is reeling. We're going to throttle your war machine."

A White House official told the WSJ that Trump plans to sign the bill.
