Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to the president on the development of defence technologies, has suggested that several Russian MESH radio relays may be operating in Kyiv, allowing Shahed drones to be temporarily controlled and their strikes adjusted.

Details: Beskrestnov estimates that between one and three such relays may be operating in the capital. He noted that they are difficult to detect and that, as long as they remain operational, electronic warfare systems may not be sufficiently effective in protecting the city.

Beskrestnov based his theory in part on previous strikes on Kyiv. He said that during one guided strike, there were no other Shahed drones in the air that could have acted as a relay.

He also said that if the drones can be controlled in real time, not only bridges but also nearby air defence systems could be at risk.

Quote: "As long as there is online control of Shahed drones, not only bridges but also air defence assets will be at risk."

Details: Beskrestnov added that Ukrainian experts are examining the wreckage of Russian drones and have found no other communications equipment that could explain this type of control.

There is currently no independent confirmation that Russian MESH relays are operating in Kyiv.

Background: On the night of 2-3 October, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 157 drones, including Shaheds, Gerberas and decoy drones. Strikes were recorded at 12 locations.
