"American PR": Ukraine denies European involvement in "peace plan" leaked to Washington Post

Dmytro Lytvyn, communications adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has responded to a report in The Washington Post which claims Europe and the US are drawing up a peace plan for Ukraine and Russia that envisages territorial concessions. Lytvyn said the information presented in the article is merely the American team's perspective.

Quote from Lytvyn: "It is not 'the US and European countries'. This is an outline of the view of some members of the US team at the meeting in Florida, which was attended by the Americans, Ukrainians and Europeans. Good PR by the Americans."
Details: Lytvyn said the WP report reflects specifically American views that were expressed during a meeting of representatives from Ukraine, the US, the UK, France and Germany in Miami on 9 October arranged by US presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The report claims that during the meeting, the Americans asked the Ukrainians to cease attacks on Russian oil refineries and warned that Trump would make a deal with Russia regarding diesel fuel.
Background:
- On 12 October, The Washington Post reported that the US and Europe are discussing a joint four-point peace plan that envisages both territorial concessions by Ukraine and Russia and security guarantees and agreements aimed at improving both countries' post-war economies.
- On 9 October, Trump announced that he had spoken to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and reached an agreement with him on the supply of Russian diesel to US and global markets.
- According to media reports, Witkoff and Kushner informed the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations in Miami that the agreement permitting the export of Russian diesel fuel is part of an effort to bring Russia back to the negotiating table.
