Details: According to the WP's interlocutor, the warnings from the US were sweeping.
"The warnings were so widespread that anyone with a Ukrainian-sounding last name got a call," the source noted.
On Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian generals had received threats from Donald Trump's administration regarding a halt to intelligence sharing.
Trump himself claimed on Tuesday 13 October that information sharing would continue.
"We are helping them, and we are sharing intel. We want the war to end," the US president stated.
Anxiety regarding a cessation of intelligence sharing arose after Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv overnight into Tuesday and Wednesday without prior warning for Ukrainian air defence systems.
"A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Once again, no early warning from our partners," Zelenskyy commented regarding the strikes.
The president reported that on the night of 13-14 October, the Russians launched 39 ballistic missiles and over 120 strike drones. Russian missiles hit energy facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast and Kharkiv.
Background:
- On 11 October, Trump published a post on his social media Truth Social announcing an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, which allegedly took effect immediately. He said that both sides had consented to cease strikes on energy infrastructure, although neither party had been informed of this.
- Barak Ravid, a journalist at American news portal Axios, stated that Zelenskyy had been unaware of the "energy ceasefire" between Ukraine and Russia announced by Trump, but added that Ukraine supports it.
- On the nights of 12-13 and 13-14 October, Russian forces launched massive attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities.
- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, commenting on overnight Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities, said Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin has rejected the US-proposed "energy ceasefire". Zelenskyy later called the Russian strikes entirely deliberate.
