Axios: Trump's envoy Kushner pressed Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries during Oslo talks

US President Donald Trump's son-in-law and special envoy Jared Kushner, who joined talks in Oslo remotely on 20 October, reiterated Trump's demand that Ukraine stop attacking Russian oil refineries, Axios reports.

Details: A source told Axios that Kushner had joined the meeting virtually and again insisted that Ukraine halt strikes on Russian oil refineries, as Trump had demanded.

"Jared was very direct," the source said.

Following the meeting, Zelenskyy said he is prepared to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries if Moscow took reciprocal steps.

A US official said Witkoff will meet Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg on Wednesday 21 October to present him with an updated proposal for ending the war in Ukraine.

The US administration official said Washington hopes the new proposal will "create a pathway toward direct trilateral and broader multilateral negotiations".

The White House hopes Putin will show greater willingness to compromise after Trump agreed to lift sanctions on Russian diesel exports and took other steps that were positively received by Moscow.

The US official said Ukraine had "brought forward new ideas and proposals, which were discussed in detail".

The official said the parties have made "meaningful progress" and achieved "strong alignment at the working level" on the next steps.

The talks took place in Oslo on Tuesday 20 October between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and US President Donald Trump's representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
