Details: Wilson reported that he led the drafting of the letter together with nearly two dozen colleagues from the Congressional Ukraine Caucus.
The congressmen are calling for Ukraine to be allowed to use the Starlink satellite communication system to strike launch sites in Russia.
Quote: "Ukraine must be able to defend itself, its people, and the West! The best way is to destroy Russia's ability to launch its terrorist attacks."
Background:
- The Wall Street Journal wrote that Elon Musk ordered the speed of the military version of Starlink to be reduced in Ukraine, leaving some Ukrainian attack and interceptor drones practically unusable.
- Reuters reported that the order to restrict Starshield, a satellite system Ukraine uses for battlefield communications and to control interceptor drones, came directly from the White House.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Elon Musk's decision to restrict the functionality of Starlink for Ukraine was a mistake that will result in human losses.
- US Republican Senator Thom Tillis is seeking an investigation and report back to Congress on the Pentagon's actions with regard to problems with Starlink satellite communications systems encountered by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
