Details: When asked by a reporter whether she will visit Ukraine, Melania Trump replied: "We will see". US President Donald Trump added that "it could happen". Donald and Melania Trump spoke to journalists in Palm Beach after voting early in the midterm elections.
The first lady was commenting for the first time on the ceasefire she said she had secured between Russia and Ukraine for the city of Oleshky. Trump said that, as part of her work, she had spoken to both Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"We talked. We signed the agreement," she said.
President Trump said his wife is doing a better job than his professional envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
"I think she's doing better than the professionals right now. She got a ceasefire. This has to do with children and people, elderly people," Trump said.
Previously: On 23 October, the White House announced that Melania Trump had secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, where a humanitarian disaster is currently unfolding.
She received international recognition for her efforts, but questions arose on Saturday over Pope Leo's role after it emerged that he had also called Zelenskyy and Putin to urge them to agree to a ceasefire in Oleshky. His calls took place several days before the first lady announced that an agreement had been reached. The pontiff contacted Putin on 16 October and spoke to Zelenskyy three days later.
Democrats accused Melania Trump of taking credit for the Pope's efforts, but both Russia and Ukraine confirmed her role in brokering the agreement.
