Construction work was started on the state border between Ukraine and Russia in Luhansk oblast according to the statement made by George Tuka, Deputy Minister of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs in his live interview [ed.: the text of this hyperlink is in Ukrainian language] on 112 Ukrayina TV Channel.

"The work is now started. The groups of geologists and land surveyors have arrived, they are examining the soil and conducting preparations to start implementing the technical specification. There are two large groups, moving towards one another along the state border with Russia," — stated Mr. Tuka.

"To my knowledge, the construction groups have already discovered two areas, which local farmers have sown with rye despite all the prior warnings," he expressed a regret.

Mr. Tuka also stated an opinion that "if the financing is decent and stable, it is realistic that we would finalize building all the planned infrastructure until 2018".

On November 19, 2014 the Cabinet of the Ministers of Ukraine approved the decision to support a decree of President Poroshenko on construction of the state border between Ukraine and Russia. The project includes building trenches, ditches and special infrastructure objects.

Originally the project was dubbed ‘the Wall’, then it was officially branded ‘the European Rampart’ [Ukr.: "Європейський вал"]. In August 2015 State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced completion of the unilateral demarcation of the state border with Russia.
