Poroshenko: Stalinist Methods Have Returned to Crimea

Saturday, 27 August 2016, 14:44

‘Stalinist times, the 1930s’ have come back to the occupied Crimea, President Petro Poroshenko said in an interview to CNN.

"One of the leaders of the Crimean Tatars, Ilmi Umerov [İlmi Ümerov], was forcefully thrown into a mental health clinic. So, we see that the Stalinist times, the 1930s, have completely returned," the President said.

He thinks this is another argument in favor of the need for good coordination to ensure global security.

Poroshenko also stressed that "hundreds of Ukrainians are currently kept hostage in Russian prisons and in prisons on the occupied territories."

The President asked the world to exert more pressure on Russia as the aggressor country for violating international law and the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens of the occupied territories.
