News from the regions: fighting in Kharkiv region, active shelling in 3 more regions

Active fighting continues in the Kharkiv region; Russian troops are unsuccessfully attempting to advance in the Donetsk region and shelling the Luhansk and Kherson regions.

Details: The night of 16-17 April was relatively calm in most regions of Ukraine: Volyn, Zakarpattia, Rivne, Kirovohrad, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions.

Situations continue to be grave in the Kharkiv region: there is active fighting on the Izium front; local government is urging residents of Lozova and Barvinkove to evacuate.

On 16 April, Russian troops carried out over 20 strikes from multiple rocket launchers and artillery, and 1 missile strike.

In the Luhansk region, shelling on 16 April hit a Lysychansk hospital and an oil refinery, and damaged several infrastructure facilities. On the night of 16-17 April, residential neighbourhoods in Sievierodonetsk were shelled heavily; on the morning of 17 April, there was an artillery shelling of Kreminna in which at least 1 person was injured. Fighting continues in Popasna and Rubizhne.

In the Donetsk region, Russian troops attempted to advance on Maryinka and Krasnohorivka but were unsuccessful. 1 civilian was killed in artillery shelling of Maryinka. 

Avdiyivka, Toretsk, and Ocheretyn were also shelled, with some damage to infrastructural facilities in these towns.

No changes in Mariupol.

Shelling and explosions continued in the Kherson region. Shelling could be heard in the city of Kherson. There is currently no information about casualties or infrastructural damage. The humanitarian situation in many of the region’s cities and towns continued to worsen.

In the Mykolaiv region air raid sirens sounded throughout the night. An explosion could be heard in Mykolaiv in the morning. Throughout the day on 16 April, Russian trooops continued shelling different parts of the region.
