Ukrainian Ministry of Defence calls for patience with weapons supply

Denys Karlovskyi – Sunday, 29 May 2022, 22:28

Hanna Maliar, Deputy Defence Minister of Ukraine, has explained to Ukrainian citizens that the Ukrainian government has sourced all possible arms through agreements, but it will take time for the effects of these agreements to materialise.

Quote: "Weapons supply is a lengthy process. It is very different from how you would go about buying something in a shop or even from buying something abroad and bringing it back in, which can take as little as a day.

And so in this situation we must be patient and understand that practically all agreements have been concluded; we have an understanding of the rate at which the arms will be supplied and the time frame of this process, but we still need time in order to reach combat parity."

Details: Maliar explained that when Russia invaded Ukraine, Western arms manufacturers had to honour pre-existing obligations and contracts regarding the supply of arms to other countries.

Accordingly, Western arms manufacturers now have to renegotiate agreements with their existing clients, since Ukraine needs to be supplied with arms at a considerably faster rate than their other clients.

In addition, there are difficulties related to the transport and transit of arms through the territories of third countries, because transit agreements have to be concluded at the highest state level.

Earlier: Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine, said that Russia became "hysterical" after US authorities decided to provide Ukraine with MLRS launchers.
