Chasiv Yar: death toll rises to 47

Emergency workers have retrieved 47 bodies from the rubble of a multi-storey building destroyed by a Russian missile attack on 9 July  in the town of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast.

Quote by Ihnatchenko: "The latest figure as of now (morning of 13 July - ed.) is that emergency workers have managed to recover 46 bodies from under the rubble, and 9 people have been rescued alive.

About 85% of the rubble has already been cleared. The emergency workers say that they are probably approaching the end of this rescue operation today."

Details: As of 9 a.m. 46 people have been confirmed dead. According to Tymoshenko, at 09:48, the body of another woman was retrieved from under the rubble.

Since the rescue operation started, a total of 47 bodies, including one child, have been found and removed from under the rubble. Nine people have been rescued alive from under the rubble. The rescue work continues.

Background:

  •  On 9 July, Russian forces attacked Chasiv Yar, hitting a five-storey building. Local authorities reported that there could be more than 3 dozen people trapped under the rubble. The body of a 9-year-old boy was among the bodies that the rescuers retrieved from the ruins of the building.

The Ministry of Defence of Russia claimed that allegedly "more than three hundred nationalists were destroyed" by a missile attack on Chasiv Yar.
