Security Service of Ukraine cracks captured Russian who shot civilian in Bucha

Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) have established that a recently captured Russian soldier machine-gunned a civilian car in the Bucha district (Kyiv region) in March, and buried the dead Ukrainian’s body in the forest. The murderer is facing life imprisonment.

Details: According to the investigation, in early March, the Russian soldier and his comrades-in-arms shot a VAZ car with a machine gun on a highway near the village of Zdvyzhivka. The driver of the car died on the spot. To conceal their crime, the Russians buried the murdered man’s body in the forest.

Quote: "The suspect was detained by the Ukrainian military in September during a combat encounter on the Kherson front. In the course of interrogation and other investigative actions, SSU employees established and proved the detainee's involvement in the crime and obtained information about the location of the deceased man. The body has now been exhumed and handed over for forensic analysis."

More details: During the investigation, SSU employees obtained additional information about numerous crimes committed by members of this particular Russian unit, such as the shelling of residential buildings, robberies, and murders.

The SSU reports that the detainee is a contract soldier in one of the units of the 331st Parachute Regiment of the 98th Airborne Division of the Russian Armed Forces. According to the investigation, he took part in hostilities in Syria in 2019.

The prisoner was notified that he was under suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war). He faces life imprisonment. The other Russian servicemen involved in this crime are currently being identified.
