Zelenskyy replaces Head of Kyiv City Military Administration

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has recognised Colonel-General Serhii Popko as head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

Details: The relevant decrees are posted on the president's website. Zelenskyy has thereby dismissed Mykola Zhyrnov from this position.  

Popko was born in 1961 in Kyiv. He graduated from the Kyiv Higher Combined Arms Command School. He has served as a platoon commander, battalion commander, unit commander, and chief of staff of a mechanised division.

After graduating from the National Defence Academy of Ukraine in 2002, where he trained at the operational and strategic level, he served in senior positions.

From 2016 to 2019, he served as commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Zhyrnov was appointed as Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration by Zelenskyy on 1 March.
