Details: The operational command said that additional checkpoints have been set up along the so-called "evacuation routes" from the Russian-occupied Kherson to Crimea, which is also temporarily occupied by Russia. Russian forces are conducting thorough checks and inspections at the aforementioned checkpoints.

Background:

  • On 18 October, Sergey Surovikin, the recently appointed commander of the Russian army in Ukraine, said that "difficult decisions" might have to be made in light of the possibility that the Armed Forces of Ukraine might advance as far as Kherson.
  • The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has said that the Russian Federation could resort to blowing up residential areas as it withdraws from the left bank of Kherson Oblast, applying a scorched-earth policy to the occupied territory.
