Quote: "We had nothing to do with it."

Details: The journalist’s question was: "The United States suggest that Ukraine was involved in the recent murder of a Russian journalist, Darya Dugina, whose car was blown up. Could you tell me if there is any truth to this?"

Previously: On 5 October, the New York Times, citing sources in the American intelligence community, reported that American security services believed that Darya Dugina’s murder was a result of a secret operation conducted by someone in the Ukrainian government.

Background:

  • On 20 August, Darya Dugina, the daughter of "Putin’s ideologue" Aleksandr Dugin, was killed when her car exploded in flames near the village of Bolshie Vyazyomy, on the outskirts of Moscow.
  • The Office of the President of Ukraine has denied that Ukraine was involved in the murder of propagandist Darya Dugina.
  • Ilya Ponomarev, a former member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation (the Russian parliament), said that the so-called National Republican Army (NRA) claimed responsibility for the murder of Darya Dugina.
  • Russian investigators believe that the car in which Darya Dugina was killed in an explosion was blown up remotely.
  • On 22 August, the Russian Federal Security Service claimed that the assassination of Darya Dugina was orchestrated by the Ukrainian security services.
