As of this evening, blackouts continue in most regions and in Kyiv. In total, more than six million consumers [are affected]. On Wednesday, almost 12 million subscribers were cut off from the grid.

The capital of Ukraine is seeing the most problems at the moment, as well as in the Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Vinnytsia and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

Please, it is necessary to consume energy sparingly in all regions, as before. If you don’t have a power outage, this does not mean that the problem is over."

Details: Zelenskyy called on the public not to turn on several powerful electrical appliances at once when power is restored.

The President remarked that every evening, there are spikes in consumption, which increase the number of emergency blackouts.

Zelenskyy stated that as of the evening of 25 November, energy supply was cut to 600,000 consumers. Many Kyiv residents were left without power for 20 or even 30 hours.

Background:

  • Russia has undertaken seven large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure since 10 October, deploying drones and missiles to target the country’s thermal and hydroelectric power plants, electricity substations and gas production facilities. Three of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants temporarily stopped generating power following Russia’s latest attack on Wednesday, 23 November.
  • Satellite images of Ukrainian cities on 23 November, after the large-scale Russian missile attack, have revealed the extent of power outages throughout the country.
  • Since the 23 November attack, Ukraine has suffered a significant power deficit and has implemented a schedule of extensive rolling blackouts.
