Amber miners became partisans during war – Head of Rivne Oblast Military Administration
Amber miners in Ukraine’s Rivne Oblast, which borders Belarus, helped the servicemen at the beginning of the full-scale war, Vitaliy Koval, Head of Rivne Oblast Military Administration, has said.
Source: Koval, in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda
Quote: "In this situation, surprisingly, they were the first assistants for all the military.
They showed [them] all the paths. These are trained partisans who have become caring citizens."
Details: Koval also said that Belarusians constantly came to the Ukrainian oblast for purchases on weekends.
For instance, 40% of passengers at Rivne airport before the COVID-19 pandemic were Belarusians.
As Koval says, they "had a weekend pack: McDonald's, shopping, a restaurant, they breathed freedom here."
