Belarusian authorities check system of response to terrorist acts: military on roads of general use, traffic restricted

According to Belarusian Security Council, the national system of response to terrorist acts is being tested in the country on 7-8 December.

Details: the authorities report that movement of military equipment and personnel is planned in this timespan.

In addition, a restriction on the movement of citizens and transport in particular roads and areas of general use is implemented. 

The Security Council of Belarus notifies that simulations of weaponry and military hardware will be used for educational purposes. 

Background: 

  • Earlier, Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, the Joint Forces Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asserted that there was a continuing accumulation of groupings of hostile troops on the territory of Belarus, so the Ukrainian defenders are preparing a due response.  
  • Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko blamed Ukraine and NATO for a growing number of provocations near the Belarusian state border and added that Ukraine was trying to push NATO into the conflict. 
  • According to the analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Oleksandr Lukashenko is making claims about apparent threats from NATO in order to emphasise the necessity of defending their country and avoid being entangled in the war in Ukraine.
  • On 6 December. Belarusian Ministry of Defence announced the start of combat training for the country's armed forces.
