US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman: It would be very difficult for Ukraine to militarily eject Russian forces this year

General Mark Milley, USA Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has said that it will be very difficult for Ukraine to militarily eject Russian forces from every inch of occupied territory this year.

Quote: "For this year, it would be very, very difficult to militarily eject the Russian forces from every inch of Russian-occupied Ukraine. That doesn't mean it can't happen, doesn't mean it won't happen, but it's going to be very, very difficult. What can happen is a continued defense, stabilizing the front. I think it's possible to clearly do that. I think depending on the delivery and training of all of this equipment. I do think it's very, very possible for the Ukrainians to run a significant tactical or even operational level offensive operation," Milley said.

According to Milley, conditions are now very difficult from a military perspective, and the front line has stretched over a huge territory. 

"The front line right now goes all the way from Kharkiv down to Kherson, and there’s significant fighting ongoing; it is more or less a static front line right this minute, with the exception of Bakhmut, Soledar... That is a significant amount of territory, and in that territory are still remaining a lot of Russian forces and Russian-occupied Ukraine," Milley said.

Previously: This week, Milley visited a training ground in Germany, where Ukrainian servicemen began their training.

On Thursday, the United States announced an additional US$2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine. The package will include more armoured vehicles and ammunition.
