Russian agents who leaked Ukrainian army positions in Donetsk Oblast get 10 years in prison

Two Russian agents who informed Russia about the deployment and movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the frontline areas of the Donetsk Oblast have been sentenced to 8 and 10 years in prison.

Details: According to the investigation results, 2 Russian henchmen collected intelligence for Russians that concerned the deployment and movement of defence forces units in the frontline areas of Donetsk Oblast.

The perpetrators were interested in the positions of Ukrainian defenders in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

They transmitted locations and information about the region's technical condition of critical infrastructure facilities to the Russians.

Russians used the obtained information for missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.

SSU officers detained both perpetrators in Donetsk Oblast in March and October 2022.

The court sentenced them to 8 and 10 years in prison, respectively.

Quote: "Among the convicts is a resident who carried out a photo and video recording of the movement of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He transmitted intelligence information via anonymous messengers to his stepfather, who was in the ranks of occupation groups and collaborated with the special services of the Russian Federation.

Another criminal sent "reports" about the deployment of Ukrainian troops to a chatbot of the "people's militia of the DPR" created by Russian handlers.

The perpetrator created an account in a messenger app, using a female name for conspiracy purposes."

Details: The court declared the men guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code:

  • Art.258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organisation);
  • Art.114-2.2 (unauthorised dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, and military supplies to Ukraine, movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations formed by the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
