Quote from the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU): "On 7 February, at 14:12, on the eastern outskirts of Bakhmut, the National Guard found two Russian Mi-24 helicopters, one target was locked on and destroyed by an anti-aircraft gunner from an Igla MANPADS."

Details: The National Guard notes that the attack helicopter opened fire on NGU units and covered Russian infantry from the air, as it was advancing on the defence line of the Ukrainian defenders.

The helicopter began to lose altitude and descend after the missile attack; the fate of the pilot is unknown.

The NGU notes that the Mi-24 is one of the fastest attack helicopters in the world and the third Russian helicopter downed by units of the 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

As a result of the efficient work of the anti-aircraft gunners of the 3rd Brigade on the Bakhmut front, Russians partially lose their combat capability and air superiority, the NGU emphasises.

In addition, on 7 February, border guards, together with other members of defence forces found and neutralised a Russian MAVIC-3 UAV using an anti-drone rifle, on the Zaporizhzhia front.

Background:

  • On 2 February, the National Guard members destroyed a hostile Su-25 aircraft in the vicinity of Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast.
  • On 7 February, Ukrainian border guards downed another Su-25 near Bakhmut.
