More than 80,000 proceedings over looting initiated in Ukraine since the beginning of full-scale invasion

Ihor Klymenko, Minister of Internal Affairs, has reported that more than 80,000 proceedings over looting have been initiated in Ukraine since the introduction of martial law in the country.

Quote: "Looting is a property crime under martial law just like theft, robbery and plunder. The term of imprisonment for theft has been increased to 5-8 years. Around 80,500 proceedings over such crimes have been initiated."

Details: Klymenko said he expects even more of such crimes will be reported in the future. "People are coming back to their homes in the liberated territories and find their homes looted. This work [to document all cases of looting] will continue and the number of these crimes will continue growing," he said.

The minister added that Ukraine’s crime rate remains firmly under control. "Some police units’ workload increased by 80% since the beginning of the [full-scale] war. Police officers working on the liberated territories are experiencing an incredible workload, but we currently maintain control over crime in the country," Klymenko said.
