Quote from Lukashenko: "In light of the recent events – and countering terrorism is a prominent reason. The Russian Federation's special military operation [Russian euphemism for the war in Ukraine - ed.] is an operation that has forced us to consider all security structures from all sides. As I often say, if it hadn’t happened, we would have had to come up with something to spur us on. In light of all this, we have started taking active measures. But the threats are very serious. At times inconceivable."

Details: As of 10:26, Naryshkin reportedly has arrived at Lukashenko's residence, the Palace of Independence in Minsk.

Ivan Tertel, the Head of the KGB of Belarus, will also take part in the meeting.

Background:

  • In his address to the Belarusian people on 31 March, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that NATO countries are preparing for an invasion of Belarusian territory.
  • The self-proclaimed president of Belarus stated during his message to the Belarusian people that the Russian troops on the territory of the country are subordinate to him, not the president of the Russian Federation.
  • In general, Lukashenko devoted the lion's share of his message not to Belarus, but to the Russian war against Ukraine, he repeatedly emphasised the need for negotiations between Zelenskyy and Putin and was also a little frightened by nuclear weapons and the fact that Russia has allegedly not yet deployed its war machine to full power.
  • On April 3, at the behest of Lukashenko, Belarus began a combat readiness check of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
