The terrorist state has endangered the lives of 400 million people in various countries that depend on Ukrainian food exports. The most critical situation is in countries in Africa and Asia such as Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Yemen."

Details: Zelenskyy noted that it is essential to preserve the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

He added that he and Guterres had agreed to work together with responsible states to restore food security and food supplies via the Black Sea.

Previously: Ukraine proposed to Türkiye and the UN that the grain corridor under the Black Sea Grain Initiative should continue to function without Russia, which withdrew from the agreements on Monday.

Background:

  • Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian President, stated on 17 July that the Black Sea Grain Initiative had been suspended. Russia also announced the withdrawal of security guarantees for shipping under the agreement, which ceased to have effect as of Monday, 17 July.
  • However, the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said he believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin actually wants the grain deal to be extended and intends to discuss this with him.
