US on Medvedev's nuclear lies: reckless and irresponsible
The White House on Monday has commented on the Sunday statement by Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, in which he once again threatened to use nuclear weapons.

The US representative called Medvedev's rhetoric "reckless and irresponsible," stressing that so far Washington has not seen any signs of Russia preparing a nuclear strike.
"The use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine — or anywhere — would be disastrous for the world and would have severe consequences for Russia," the spokesperson said.
He stressed that the United States continues to closely monitor the nuclear threat from Russia, but so far sees no reason to adjust its own nuclear policy.

- On Sunday, in his Telegram channel, Medvedev attempted to scare off Ukraine's counteroffensive and wrote: "If you imagine that the offensive of the Ukrainian Banderites with the support of NATO was successful, and they nick a part of our land, then we would have to resort to the use of nuclear weapons in accordance with the rules of the decree of the President of Russia, dated 2 June 2020." [Banderites is what Russians call Ukrainians based on the distorted image of Stepan Bandera, the leader of Ukrainian nationalists in the 20th century – ed.] "There is simply no other choice," he added.
