"An ambulance arrived within minutes. The boy was hospitalised in severe condition with serious injuries. Our doctors fought for his life for more than two hours, but, unfortunately, had no success," Onyshchuk explained.

The mayor said that the boy was born in the village of Tseniava, but later moved to Kolomyia with his parents. He graduated from kindergarten and then went to study at Lyceum No 2.

"He finished the second grade this year. He was a very inquisitive, diligent and cheerful child. This is a terrible and very painful loss.

Sincere condolences to Volodia's family. The whole hromada mourns with you," Bohdan Stanislavskyi added. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a town, village or several villages and their adjacent territories – ed.].

Days of mourning have been announced in the Kolomyia hromada on 12 and 13 August due to the tragic death of the boy.
