She stressed that it is necessary to contribute to the strengthening of NATO, and in turn the security of Latvia, having completed the creation of a single and free European space which includes Ukraine.

"Our response to Russian aggression will continue to be strong and decisive. We must not allow doubts, bias, prejudices and fatigue," Mieriņa is convinced.

A day earlier, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs mentioned Corporal Vitālijs Smirnovs, who was recently killed fighting for the freedom of Ukraine.

Before that, Rinkēvičs called on the EU to buy artillery shells for Ukraine outside its borders, since the European Union itself does not have enough time to provide artillery ammunition as scheduled, with the deadline being March 2024.

The president also said that Russia is planning a long war in Ukraine, and that "it is important to actually fight for international peace, and peace in Europe, because if we stop Russia in Ukraine, then Russia is not going to be able to challenge other countries".
