Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has left a cabinet meeting to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone.

Two days ago, on 8 December, Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, called Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip "crimes against humanity" during a meeting of the Security Council.
