In addition, the leaders mentioned the preparation for the advisors' meeting on the Peace Formula that will take place in Davos in a few weeks and instructed the teams to intensify bilateral work on security obligations for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy also mentioned Italy's support for Ukraine at the G7 and European Union levels.

"Giorgia and I also discussed the issue of financial and political support for Ukraine by the European Union. Italy stays with us in this, and it gives confidence not only to Ukraine but also to everyone who wants our Europe to withstand the Russian attacks," the president concluded.

Background:

  • From 1 January, Italy has taken over the presidency of the G7, replacing Japan in this role.
  • The G7 Group consists of the United States, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Japan, and the EU as an association. Russia was expelled from this format after the occupation of Crimea in 2014.
