Quote: "They [the negotiations – ed.] had reached a very advanced stage of agreement in a complex process [in Istanbul in 2022 – ed.], and they were almost complete.

But after we withdrew our troops from Kyiv, the other side rejected all these agreements and obeyed the instructions of Western countries, European countries and the US to fight against Russia to the end.

Furthermore, the president of Ukraine prohibited negotiations with Russia by law. He signed a decree prohibiting anyone from negotiating with Russia.

We know that he [the President of Ukraine – ed.] is putting forward some ideas regarding this settlement, but to reach an agreement, dialogue is needed. Isn't that so?"

Details: Putin said Ukraine is now putting forward conditions Russia cannot agree to.

Notably, Putin began the interview with a long lecture on fake history, making manipulative statements about Ukraine's sovereignty and distorting historical interpretations of Ukrainian statehood.

Note: Tucker Carlson was the host of the Tucker Carlson Tonight show on Fox News from 2016 to 2023, but last April, he was fired without an official explanation from his employer.

CNN noted that Carlson was "a top promoter of conspiracy theories and radical rhetoric" at the channel.

Background: Members of the European Parliament have called for Tucker Carlson to be banned from entering the EU because of his interview with Putin.

Previously:

  • Carlson announced that he would be interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin – the reason for his trip to Moscow. He said he had also requested an interview with President Zelenskyy.
  • In November, former US president Donald Trump said that he was considering Carlson as a potential running mate and vice president.
