Zelenskyy names second corvette for Ukraine after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi – video

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decreed that an Ada-class corvette of the Armed Forces of Ukraine which is being built in Türkiye is to be named after the 17th-century Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi.

Quote: "The Ada-class corvette of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shall be named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi and hereinafter referred to as the Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi corvette."

Details: The corvette has reportedly been so named in order to revive the historical traditions of the National Army and perpetuate the memory of Ivan Vyhovskyi, Hetman of the Zaporizhzhian Host and an outstanding Ukrainian military and political leader and statesman.

Background:

• In August 2023, it was reported that Türkiye would build a second Ada-type corvette for the Ukrainian Navy and that the keel had been laid at a shipyard in Istanbul.
• In August 2022, Zelenskyy named the first Ada-class corvette that Türkiye built for the Ukrainian Navy after Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
