US and NATO have launched new military aid mechanism, Ukraine's defence minister says

Quote from Shmyhal: "The PURL mechanism consists of a list of equipment and munitions based on Ukraine's requests and validated by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). New packages will be announced on a regular basis.
Allied and partner nations can fund the delivery of US weapons and technologies via voluntary contributions."
Details: Shmyhal added that NATO would coordinate the delivery of these packages, including through the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU).
"The Netherlands has generously funded the first Package, worth €500m, and we expect the weapons to arrive in the very near future. We expect further significant announcements to follow," Shmyhal said.
Background:
- Reuters reported on the new mechanism for financing military aid for Ukraine on 1 August. Reuters sources said NATO allies hope to provide Ukraine with weapons worth US$10 billion.
- Earlier, it was reported that the PEACE Act has been submitted to Congress. The act proposes establishing a fund under the US Treasury Department to which NATO allies would be able to contribute to help replenish military equipment supplied to Ukraine.
