The Kremlin wants Ukraine and Russia to jointly distribute electricity generated by the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Details: The outlet reports that US officials have said a significant part of the talks this week has focused on the economy and on who controls the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is occupied by the Russian forces.

Quote: "There was no agreement, but the push – favored by Moscow – is for Ukraine and Russia to share the electric output from that plant, which is the largest in Europe."

More details: It is currently unknown whether this would mean a 50-50 split or some other arrangement.

"Both parties are starting to envision what they can gain from peace, like the prosperity plan for Ukraine, some of these opportunities for Russia to do business deals with the United States of America," a second official said.

Background: In 2025, Russia's Foreign Ministry said the Kremlin "does not consider it possible" to transfer control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Ukraine or any other country.
