EU on US-Israel military operation against Iran: Protecting civilians is the priority

The European Union has stated that the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law remain priorities as the US and Israel conduct military operations against Iran.

Details: Kallas described the latest developments in the Middle East as "perilous". She also pointed out that the Iranian regime has killed thousands of its own citizens during the latest protests in the country and supported various terrorist groups in the region, creating threats to global security. She recalled that the EU has adopted strong sanctions against Iran and supported diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue of Iran's nuclear programme.

Quote from Kallas: "I have spoken to Israel's Foreign Minister [Gideon] Sa'ar and other ministers in the region. The EU is also coordinating closely with Arab partners to explore diplomatic paths.

Protection of civilians and international humanitarian law is a priority. Our consular network is fully engaged in facilitating departures for EU citizens."

More details: Kallas added that Operation Aspides, the EU military mission in the Red Sea, remains on heightened alert and is prepared to act to keep the sea corridor open.
