Orbán says Middle East war has doubled importance of Druzhba oil pipeline

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said the war in the Middle East has doubled the importance of Russian oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline.

Details: On the day the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran in the Middle East, Orbán said he now considers supplies via Druzhba even more important.
Quote: "The war involving Iran has doubled the importance of the Friendship [Druzhba – ed.] oil pipeline. Once again, I call on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to immediately resume oil deliveries to Hungary!"
Details: Hungary and Slovakia continue to claim that Ukraine has stopped oil supplies via the Druzhba oil pipeline solely for political reasons, even though the disruption was caused by damage from a Russian attack in late January.
Orbán and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico have decided to set up an investigative commission to assess the condition of the Druzhba oil pipeline and to seek permission to visit the damaged site.
Background:
- After a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 27 February, Fico claimed that Kyiv has no interest in resuming the operation of the Druzhba oil pipeline and has refused to allow an investigative commission into the country.
- Orbán wrote a critical letter to Zelenskyy in which he demanded "more respect for Hungary".
