White House reveals goals of operation against Iran

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has set out the objectives of Operation Epic Fury, which include destroying Iran's missile arsenal and navy, disrupting the regime's terrorist networks and ensuring that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.

Details: Leavitt stressed that President Donald J. Trump had addressed the American people on Saturday 28 February and clearly outlined the goals of Operation Epic Fury.

Among the main tasks of the campaign are the destruction of Iran's missile industry, the elimination of the regime's naval forces, blocking the activities of terrorist proxy groups and the use of improvised explosive devices and preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Forty-nine of the most senior Iranian regime leaders – including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – have already been wiped off the face of the Earth so far in the opening strikes of Operation Epic Fury."

Details: Leavitt also emphasised that although the previous US operation, known as Midnight Hammer, had destroyed Iran's main nuclear facilities, the regime "was fully committed to rebuilding their nuclear programme, and they REFUSED to make a deal".

Background:

• On 28 February, the US and Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran. During a targeted airstrike on the residence of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, 30 bombs were reportedly dropped, killing him along with key members of the country's leadership.
• In response, Tehran launched large-scale strikes using ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones against US bases and the territories of American allies in the Middle East, including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
• Iran also blocked the Strait of Hormuz in response to the military operation by the US and its allies.
