More than 70% of Russian Shahed-type attack drones over Kyiv and surrounding areas were destroyed using interceptor drones in February.

Details: According to Syrskyi, interceptor UAVs are playing an increasingly key role in countering Shahed drones.
The meeting on the so-called "small air defence" reviewed the performance of the first to third layers of the drone interception system, as well as progress on projects aimed at strengthening anti-drone protection in the regions.
Participants also discussed upgrading army aviation helicopters to improve their effectiveness against Shahed drones and enhancing protection of key administrative centres.
"Despite significantly deteriorating weather conditions and a shortage of strike capabilities, in February we did not allow the performance of 'small air defence' to decline. Last month, our interceptor drones carried out around 6,300 sorties, destroying more than 1,500 Russian UAVs of various types," Syrskyi said.
He added that work is under way to counter a new tactic of deploying Shahed drones at extremely low altitudes. Cooperation with manufacturers continues to improve the effectiveness of different interceptor drone models, train their crews and equip air defence units with unmanned systems.
Following the meeting, relevant military authorities were assigned new tasks.
Background: Earlier, it was reported that around 30% of Russian attack drones in Ukrainian airspace are destroyed using interceptor drones, citing Colonel Yurii Cherevashenko, Deputy Commander of the Air Force's Unmanned Air Defence Systems.
