Background:
- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha previously received confirmation from the government of the United Arab Emirates that Ukrainians currently in the country would receive the necessary protection and care amid the war in the Middle East.
- On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran. During a targeted airstrike on the palace of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 30 bombs were reportedly dropped, killing him and key members of the country's leadership.
- In response, Tehran launched large-scale ballistic missile and kamikaze drone attacks on US bases and the territories of American allies in the Middle East, including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE.
