Background:
- On 22 April, EU ambassadors are set to try to give final approval to €90 billion for Ukraine at a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives. Hungary had blocked the decision over the suspension of Russian oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline, which Budapest blames on Ukraine.
- Hungary's incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar indicated that he will not block the €90 billion EU loan for Ukraine, as the decision has already been made, although he confirmed that Budapest will not participate in it.
- The EU plans to provide Ukraine with the first tranche of the €90 billion loan at the end of May or early June 2026.
