US President Donald Trump has said Iran wants the United States to open the Strait Hormuz as soon as possible.

Details: Trump said on 28 April that Iran had informed the US that it was supposedly "in a State of Collapse".

Quote: "They want us to 'Open the Hormuz Strait', as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!)."

Background:

• Axios reported earlier that Iran has put forward a new peace proposal to the US, which includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, extending the ceasefire or potentially agreeing on a full end to the conflict, while postponing nuclear negotiations to a later date.
• On 28 April, CNN reported that Trump has indicated he is unlikely to accept Iran's latest proposal to end the war.
