Quote: "Drones are increasingly striking civilian infrastructure. The latest example is the strikes on energy facilities in Tuapse, which could potentially have serious environmental consequences."
Details: Putin made the claim during a meeting on upcoming elections to the State Duma (the lower house of Russia's parliament) later this year.
He also claimed that Ukraine is attacking Russian energy facilities because it is not achieving success on the battlefield.
Background:
- Ukraine's defence forces carried out the latest strike on the Tuapse oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on the night of 27-28 April as part of efforts to undermine Moscow's military and economic capabilities.
- The General Staff announced the results of Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries in the Russian cities of Tuapse and Yaroslavl, confirming the destruction of 24 storage tanks and damage to four others following a strike near the Tuapse oil refinery on 20 April.
- On 16 April, long-range units from Ukraine's Special Operations Forces struck several facilities at an oil terminal in the Black Sea port of Tuapse.
