Quote from Palamar: "Another Ukrainian serviceman was tortured to death in Russian captivity. Oleksandr Krokhmaliuk joined Azov in 2016. Before Russian captivity, he was a military medic, Chief of Medical Service. A person who saved lives. A dignified fighter and my brother-in-arms. Oleksandr went into captivity from the Azovstal; he survived the Olenivka camp and the Taganrog torture facility."

Details: Palamar said that the last known place of Krokhmaliuk's detention was detention centre No. 2 in Kamyshin, Russian Volgograd Oblast. In September 2025, his body was returned during a 1,000-for-1,000 repatriation of bodies. A forensic examination conducted in Lviv on 22 September 2025 recorded the cause of death as fractured ribs and blunt-force trauma to the chest.

Quote from Palamar: "It is yet another indictment of the system of international humanitarian law, which is unable to protect the health and the lives of Ukrainian prisoners-of-war in Russian captivity. Blatant and scornful violations of the Geneva Conventions, torture and murder of Ukrainian servicemen are an intentional barbaric state policy of the Russians. Systematic and well-documented but unpunished."

Details: Krokhmaliuk's daughter said that his funeral will take place in Cherkasy on 24 May. A memorial service will be held at St Michael's Cathedral, followed by a farewell ceremony at Soborna Square.
