Journalists from the Radio Liberty investigative news project Skhemy (Schemes) have posted satellite images showing the aftermath of Ukrainian strikes on occupied Crimea and infrastructure facilities used by Russia to support its military forces.

Details: Satellite images from Vantor, taken between 12 and 22 June, show damage to key logistics routes, fires at oil facilities, destroyed bridges and other consequences of Ukrainian attacks.

The journalists released images of a fire at an oil depot in Kerch, damage to the Dzhankoi checkpoint in the village of Peredmistne, the destruction caused to the Chonhar Bridge, and the consequences of a strike on the bridge across the North Crimean Canal near the village of Stavky in Kherson Oblast.

The journalists paid particular attention to the Kerch Bridge. Images from 22 June show several vehicles equipped with smoke generators creating a screen to conceal sections of the roadway and bridge structures.

The satellite also captured smoke from a fire at the Kerch oil depot and a blaze at an oil storage facility in the port of Kavkaz in Russia.

Skhemy noted that the damaged facilities form part of the infrastructure used by Russian forces to support their military grouping in occupied Crimea.

Background:

  • On 21 June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported strikes on targets in Russia's Krasnodar Krai and in occupied Kerch.
  • The Russian occupation authorities in Crimea announced new restrictions on petrol sales, under which only representatives of the occupation administration would be allowed to purchase fuel.
  • Also on 21 June, rolling power outages were introduced in Crimea due to power supply problems.
  • Explosions and multiple fires were reported across occupied Crimea on the night of 22-23 June, while the Kerch Bridge was closed throughout the night.
  • On the night of 20-21 June, Ukraine's defence forces struck the port of Kavkaz in Krasnodar Krai, with a fire confirmed at the port. Ukrainian forces also struck the railway bridge across the North Crimean Canal near Rozdolne, a railway bridge near Petershagen in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and the railway bridge across the Syvash near Chonhar.
