Former Russian president Medvedev arrives in Iran for Khamenei's funeral

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, has arrived in Iran for the farewell ceremony for the country's former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US and Israeli strikes on Tehran on 28 February.

Details: It was reported that representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Orthodox Church and Muslim clergy will also attend the ceremony.
The first day of mourning began in Tehran on July 3, with foreign delegations present at the ceremony.
Iranian media reported that the farewell ceremony for the supreme leader will run from 3 to 9 July. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be buried in the city of Mashhad, where he was born.
The first images of the coffin containing the body of the former Iranian supreme leader earlier appeared on social media.
For reference: In January 2025, Russian leader Vladimir Putin concluded a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which includes strengthened military cooperation that helps Russia wage its war against Ukraine.
