Thick black smoke was seen rising in the morning from the plant, which has a capacity of 14 million tonnes per year and previously supplied about a third of Moscow's fuel consumption.
At least 14 drones attacked the Russian capital overnight, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, claiming that all of them were shot down.
There has been no official confirmation of a strike from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other official sources so far.
Background:
- On the night of 9-10 July, Moscow was attacked by drones, with air defences activated in the city. Due to the attack, Moscow's Domodedovo Airport temporarily suspended arrivals and departures.
- The Moscow refinery is unlikely to resume operations until at least 2027 following earlier Ukrainian drone strikes, which damaged both primary oil processing units.
