One crew member was killed – he was on board the Mombasa. Eight others were injured, four of them seriously. Among those injured are six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian nationals.

Both tankers sustained damage as a result of the attack, with fires breaking out on board. The ministry reported that the fires were contained.

The UAE condemned the attack, describing it as a "blatant attack", and reserved "its full right to respond to this escalation".

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, for its part, said it had disabled two "violating vessels" that had allegedly ignored warnings and attempted to pass through a mined route, accusing the US of inciting the vessels to do so.

Background: US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported the completion of another wave of strikes on Iran, hitting military facilities in six cities.
