Ukrainian Parliament approves resignation of Svyrydenko government

The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) approved the resignation of Yuliia Svyrydenko as prime minister on 14 July. The decision means the resignation of the entire government.

Background:
- According to UP's sources in the president's team, as of 14 July Svyrydenko had not agreed to take up the post of Ukraine's ambassador to the US following her dismissal.
- MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported that Svyrydenko would become ambassador to the US following her resignation as prime minister, while media noted that current ambassador Olha Stefanishyna had requested to end her service for personal reasons.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the need to reshuffle the Cabinet of Ministers (Ukrainian government) and announced changes in the leadership of law enforcement agencies.
- Svyrydenko, following a meeting with Zelenskyy, effectively confirmed she was leaving the post of head of government.
- According to Ukrainska Pravda sources, Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz and Director of Ukrnafta, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov are among the candidates being considered for the post of head of government.
- According to Ukrainska Pravda sources, Zelenskyy offered current Naftogaz head Serhii Koretskyi the post of head of the Cabinet of Ministers. Koretskyi responded that he was ready to try.
