Latvia aims to cover border with Russia with drone detection systems by end of September

Latvian Defence Minister Raivis Melnis has ordered radar systems and drone detection equipment to be deployed along the border with Russia by the end of September.

Details: According to the minister, the radar systems still need to be prepared and integrated into the overall defence system. Additional command-and-control systems and radars also need to be purchased.

Melnis added that negotiations are currently under way with one country to purchase the necessary equipment, but he did not specify which country.

The Defence Ministry's plan envisages covering Latvia's entire eastern border with counter-drone systems by the end of September.

An automated system has already been deployed along one section of the border and is being used to learn how to operate it and test solutions in practice.

By the end of September, Latvia plans to cover its entire eastern border with interconnected and automatically controlled systems.
