Trump says he is selling weapons to NATO, not directly to Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has claimed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin understands that the United States is selling weapons to NATO countries rather than directly to Ukraine.

Details: Trump made the remarks in a post about Iran, saying that he trusts Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Putin when they say they are not supplying weapons to the Islamic Republic.
"He understands that I do not sell Weapons to Ukraine, but to NATO Countries. They pay full price, and how those Weapons are distributed, I have no idea," he said.
The Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative allows European NATO allies, Canada and other partners supporting Ukraine to purchase US-made weapons and ammunition and then transfer them to Ukraine.
Background:
- During the public part of his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit on 8 July, Trump said that the US would allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot systems
- Zelenskyy also said that following the political agreement with Trump on a licence to produce Patriots, technical work to implement it should begin swiftly.
- Reuters reported that production of US interceptor missiles for Patriot air defence systems intended for Ukraine is most likely to be established in a European country, with Germany among the options under consideration.
